Sete Coqueiros Is A Unique Maceio Urban Beach
When you start heading north from Maceio's urban center, one of the first beaches along the way is Sete Coqueiros. It is situated between Pajucara and Ponta Verde, two of the city's busiest urban beaches. These two beaches are huge and usually crowded with tourists and locals alike. Sete Coqueiros has lots of visitors due to its nearness to the city center, and it can fill up on weekends, but you'll find Sete Coqueiros beach to be generally quieter than the other urban beaches.
Sete Coqueiros beach is 4 kilometers north of the city center, right on the northern tip of Pajucara Bay. This makes it an easy trip from Maceio, or one of the city's other urban beaches.
Like the other urban beaches, Sete Coqueiros has its share of restaurants, bars and hotels. The restaurants serve shrimp, lobster and other seafood treats. At the bars you can get coconut and other tropical drinks. The many hotels at the edge of the beach's palm and coconut tree groves provide a relatively inexpensive night's rest. Some people prefer to camp on the beach, and you will always find tents scattered here and there.
There are two things that set Sete Coqueiros apart from the other beaches. First, it is the boarding point for trips to the natural pools. Near Pajucara Bay is a massive area of coral reefs. During low tide, these reefs form natural swimming pools. These are one of Maceio's greatest sightseeing attractions. Sete Coqueiros is where most boats leave for the pools.
The boats are called "jangadas" and you can hire one very cheaply to take you out to the natural pools. There are bigger jagandas that can accommodate more people, and some of these boats have bars on them that serve food and drinks during the trip. This is an excellent way to spend an afternoon and see some of the unique sights of Maceio.
The other big draw of Sete Coqueiros is its outdoor crafts fair. No other urban beach has a craft market like Sete Coqueiros. Here you can buy all kinds of handmade crafts sold directly by locals. Many of these items are unique to coastal northeastern Brazil, and you won't find them anywhere else in the world. Best of all, the money goes straight to the makers. This makes Sete Coqueiros a great place to enjoy the beach and pick up some unique items to take home.
And don't forget the water. Sete Coqueiros has a wonderful ocean for you to enjoy, complete with white sand bars and coconut trees for shade. Sete Coqueiros is a great place to spend the afternoon.
