Riacho Doce Beach Is A Great Way To Get Away From The City
Riacho Doce is a great area for beaches just north of Maceio. It is not too far to travel by bus or taxi, but far enough that you won't find all the crowds of the urban beaches. You can still enjoy the white sand and clear water of Maceio's beaches without having to step over other beach-goers.
Riacho Doce is located on the north coast of Maceio. This area is known for its beautiful white sand, clear water and coconut trees. The coconut trees give the area a quaint, tropical feel. In the area around Riacho Doce beach, you will also find marshes where the river tributaries meet the Atlantic Ocean. These areas are full of exotic plantlife, wild birds and other things to see.
There is a village not far from the beach called Riacho Doce which gives the area its name. This is a small fishing village full of local people. With all the tourist traffic, many local residents have set up stands where they sell local seafood delicacies and handmade goods. It's always a good idea to take a trip into the village of Riacho Doce on your way to the beach to see what they have to offer.
During the week is the best time to visit Riacho Doce. During the weekend, the beach fills up a little bit with other beach lovers who want to get away from the busy urban beaches. On weekdays, you will find the beach almost empty, with only a few other people and perhaps a couple of local fishermen. This is the time to go if you want to have the beach all to yourself.
Even though Riacho Doce is a little way from town, it is still close enough to get to easily by bus or taxi. There is a free bus that goes from Maceio's main bus terminal in the central part of town. For updated bus information, check at the Maceio bus station or ask at your hotel. It runs frequently throughout the day.
