Paripueira Has A Little Bit Of Everything - White Sand, Green Water, Natural Pools And Sea Cows
Paripueira is an interest area. Not only does it have fantastic beaches, clear green water and one of the world's biggest offshore reefs, it is also a place where you can get up close to one of the earth's strangest animals, the manatee or "sea cow." Paripueira has more to offer than a regular Maceio beach!
The area is not such a tourist spot, actually, Paripueira is a fishing village, and everyday fishermen from all over the area head there to get the day's catch. You will often sea fishermen side by side with sunbathing tourists, both enjoying what the area has to offer.
But, what makes Paripueira really unique, and what draws most of the tourists and fishermen, are the reefs and natural pools. Paripueira is the second largest area of natural reefs in the world. These reefs create natural pools that are fun for beach-goers to swim in, and also full of rare and exotic animal life that you will only find here.
This is why Paripueira is a place of interest to marine biologists and other scientists. Long ago, biologists discovered the wonders of Paripueira's natural pools, and they have been studying these rare fish and undersea animals ever since.
And this brings us to this beach's most unique attraction: the manatees. Paripueira has a manatee sanctuary called "Projeto Peixi-boi" (The Manatee Project). Until you've seen a "sea cow" up close, you've never seen the strange things nature can create. Manatees are cute and peaceful animals, and this is probably the closest you or your kids will ever get to one. These animals are highly endangered, and only live in the mid-Atlantic Ocean. Their traditional habitat extends to the coastline of Florida, but it is rare that one is ever seen in that region. Here in the sanctuary, they are protected and cared for so that these rare and wonderful animals don't disappear from the earth forever.
On the other hand, if you just want to enjoy the beach, you can do that here too. Paripueira has plenty of that Alagoas white sand, lots of palm trees, and fresh seafood refreshments for you to enjoy. This beach is about 30 kilometers north of Maceio, and like the neighboring Sonho Verde, it has this area's strange and beautiful green water. Paripueira is a great place to get out of the crowded urban beaches and see where the locals go.
