Things To Think About Before You Head Out

Before you hit one of Maceio's amazing beaches, there are some things you should know. Make sure you're all set and ready before you head out on the sand, and you won't have to make too many trips back to your hotel room.

Safety

First of all, it is important to enjoy the beach in a safe way. The number one concern is money. For a day outing on the beach, you won't need very much of it. You definitely don't want someone walking off with your wallet while you're enjoying the waves.

There are lots of little eating places and bars located throughout the beach, as well as places to get handmade crafts. Nothing that is sold on the beach is any more than R$10. To be safe, you shouldn't take any more with you than you plan to spend. Also take just enough that if it disappeared, it wouldn't be the end of your vacation.

Robberies on the beach are uncommon, but you should still be safe. If you head to one of the crowded urban beaches, it is a good idea to wear a money belt, or a small belly pack under your shirt. Put all the items you don't want getting wet into a zip lock bag.

Another thing to keep in mind is that there are plenty of ATM's around the urban beaches.

The Sun

The sun is scorching hot everywhere in Maceio. The northeast coastline of Brazil gets 300 days of sunshine a year, and it makes California look like Seattle. Do not, under any circumstance, go anywhere near the beach without proper sun protection. Go for a high grade sunscreen.

Also, make sure you spend some time in the shade. There are plenty of shady spots on Maceio's beaches under the palm trees. Take some breaks from the sun and take advantage of the shade periodically.

Know Your Destination

If you're going to one of the urban beaches, in most cases you just have to walk across the boardwalk. If you are heading to one of the beaches of the north or south coast, it's going to be a trip. You can go to most of these places by bus or taxi, but make sure you have all the information you need to get back home. In other words, know when the last bus is, or else you might find yourself sleeping on the beach. As a worst case scenario, you might end up staying in a small hotel near one of the beaches, which might not be so bad actually.

Get Information Before You Go

There is plenty of tourist information everywhere about all of Maceio's beach areas. Most hotels have lots of information, and right on the boardwalk of the big beaches like Pajucara, there is plenty of tourist information. Use it and find a good, out of the way place to relax!

Get ready before you head to the beach. Then you can enjoy all Maceio has to offer in style!
