One mystery about Jatiuca is its name. Most of Maceio's beaches have picaresque names that have some significance to local residents. No one quite knows what the name "Jatiuca" means, but another local legend says that the beach is named after a plant that grows only in this area.
Although Jatiuca is one of Maceio's urban beaches, it has a reputation for being calm and quiet. During the weekdays especially, you will find Jatiuca less crowded than the other urban beaches. Jatiuca is located just 4.5 kilometers north of the center of Maceio.

During the weekends, these places are crowded mostly with tourists, but during the week you will find lots of locals hanging out. Two of the most popular of Jatiuca's clubs are Skyy and Maikai.
