A Guide To Jaragua District Nightlife

Maceio's Jaragua District is a great place to hit when you visit the city. This historical part of town is now considered a suburb of Maceio, and it hosts some of the greatest nightlife the city has to offer, as well as good restaurants, shops and views of the area.

The city of Maceio has made it a point to preserve the old buildings of the Jaragua District. When Maceio was just a tiny village with a few sugar plantations, the port was built here in order to ship goods back to Europe. Once the port was established, the tiny village became a thriving city with a huge economy, and it eventually transformed to the capital of Alagoas. During this time, the city grew around the port, and these old buildings from the 19th century have been wonderfully preserved. It offers a great chance to see what the city of Maceio would have looked like during its early days.

After Maceio became the state capital, the importance of the port diminished. These warehouses and old buildings became cheap places to live for artists, musicians, and other bohemians who wanted space and a hip, inexpensive place to work. For many years, Jaragua was the center of Maceio's modern art scene.

Now, these wonderfully preserved old buildings serve a different purpose. Many of them have been transformed into restaurants, bars and nightclubs for the people of Maceio and the many visitors to the city to enjoy. If you visit Maceio, you absolutely must check out the Jaragua District; imagine hanging out and dancing in a giant, old colonial building right on the port!

The Jaragua District also offers some great views of the ocean and the city of Maceio. From this vantage point, you can see most of the city and beaches, and this provides some wonderful photographic opportunities.

Here are some of Jaragua's best clubs, where there is usually live music and dancing:

Arena Dance Club - 55-82-326-7378. Located at: Rua Sa Albuquerque, 168

Boate 209 Uruguai - 55-82-326-7656. Located at: Rua Tab. Vieira Barros, 209

Number One Disco Club - 55-82-336-3910. Located at: Rua Tab Vieira Barros, 288

Arena Dance Club is the biggest and one of the oldest clubs in the Jaragua District, but there are always new places opening. You can always wander Jaragua on a Friday or Saturday night and find plenty of places to go and dance the night away!
